There are lots of things to be passionate or fanatical about, be it sports, history or film. Many people are passionate about music. It’s a very personal thing, one song may mean two different things to two different people. We all have a reason for liking certain music and my greatest music influence is my Dad.

So he asked me to organise his substantial CD collection, I saw it not as a favour or a job to be done, I saw the opportunity to listen to the music he loved, an opportunity to find some new music I had not previously heard, and the opportunity to hear all my favourite artists influences and to work ‘backwards’ to find new bands.

I have hundreds of albums myself, some I can recite every word, others I’ve played only a couple of times and some I have only listened to one song. The amount of unheard music in my own home that is just waiting to be discovered excited me.

I decided that this very ‘Personal Musical Journey of Discovery’, would be something I would love to have something to show for it – so I decided to run a blog.

There are two simple rules

  • Whole albums must be listened to before posting, as I have a habit of listening to just a couple of songs and telling people the album is great or poor as a result
  • No greatest hits, record labels often choose the most successful songs for those albums rather than the best examples of an artists work

The idea came from reading a book call iPod Therefore I am, by Dylan Jones. In that book, the author describes how the iPod changed his whole concept on music and how his  life dedicated to music could be symbolised in one item. In it he describes how music has shaped his life and how very important it is to him.

Dylan Jones was looking back with great fondness on some of the albums he had brought and it made me think that in the 15 or so years I’ve been properly listening to music how much my own musical taste has changed.

Having made numerous websites in the past, they all ended up being unloved and discarded as I lost interest in the subject, however music is the only subject matter that I can honestly say hand-on-heart say i will never lose interest in.

The point of this blog is not to provide album reviews, there are plenty of other sites for that already, this blog is about how the music makes me feel, it’s about the journey of discovering new material, its about learning the influences and followers of artists. As I said, music is a very personal thing and at the centre of this blog is me.

Music is the only thing in this world that can take any individual back to any moment in thier life, brining the emotions back as is it happened only seconds ago. It’s uniquely powerful and that’s why I love it so much
